Sweetwater County Democrats Meeting

Thursday, February 20th, 2020

7:00 pm

Western Wyoming Community College Rock Springs Campus

Presiding officers present:

Chair: Meghan Jensen

Vice Chair: Mark Lee

State Committeewoman: Hollis Meader

State Chair: Joe Barbuto

A special meeting was called to order at 7:06. Mike Martin led the pledge.

Brent Alcorn made a motion to approve the special meeting agenda to elect a secretary. Seconded by Carmen Whitehead and motion was approved unanimously. Nominations were opened and a motion to nominate Carolyn Malson moved by RJ Pieper and seconded by Hollis Meader. There were no other nominations, Carolyn Malson elected as the new secretary.

The special meeting was adjourned at 7:10.

The monthly meeting was called to order at 7:11 pm.

Mike Martin moved to approve the monthly meeting agenda. Brent Alcorn seconded. Unanimous approval; motion carried.

Correspondence: Chamber Renewals were in the mail. RJ Pieper moved to renew both RS and GR Chamber membership. Brady Whitehead seconded. Passed unanimously.

Secretary’s Report: Michele Irwin motioned to have the April 15th date removed in the News Round up for the cutoff for PSC comments. Seconded by Joe Barbuto. Passed.

Treasurer’s Report: Previous balance 6976.65. Current balance 7639.57. Michele Irwin motioned to approve. Carmen Whitehead seconded. Passed

Old Business:

Women’s March, NTR and RCV/Caucus Presentation by Mark Lee. Women’s March received applause. Video of JFK shown “Ask not what your country can do for you…” was shown to remind everyone that we need precincts filled. Pam Carey will be moving and Carolyn Malson’s name needed to be spelled correctly.

New Business:

A need to be thankful for public servants: Thank you cards for our Sweetwater County Democratic Legislators and a tribute to former Legislator Bob Reese.

Caucus information. Register as a Democrat by March 20th to participate in Caucus on April 4th at Green River High School and March 10th to participate in the second wave of mail in ballots that have to be postmarked by March 20th. Following the Caucus will the Convention where 24 Delegates are chosen to go to the State Convention on June 6th in Powell. The platform will also be reconsidered and voted on.

Mark Lee presented a budget of $1,650. RJ Pieper moved to approve the budget of up to $1,650. Seconded by Mike Martin. Passed with one Nay vote.

News Roundup:

Michele Irwin announced commentary on the Raven Solar project date as March 12th and May 20th there will be a second PSC meeting in Rock Springs.

50/50 Raffle:

$86 was raised, with the winner to receive a book. Carolyn Malson won.

Mark Lee moved to adjourn and Mike Martin seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:14.
